False friends US part 10

And here’s a final month of British and US false friends. Just a random selection this time of the ones I think are most amusing and/or confusing.

 

first floor [fɜːst flɔː] This is as confusing as some of the clothing false friends from last month, but mostly less embarrassing when it goes wrong. The British first floor is called the second floor in the US, and the US first floor is called the ground floor in Britain (as it is in the rest of Europe).
